The geosciences with the sub-areas geology, mineralogy and geophysics gain and impart scientific knowledge about the Earth system. The aim of the course is to describe and understand this system as a whole or in its parts, to use its resources responsibly, to identify and avoid risks to the Earth’s habitat. The bachelor’s degree with solid scientific (mathematics, physics, chemistry) and broad geoscientific basic education creates. Together we concentrate on teaching as well as on basic and applied research projects, whereby teaching and research are inseparably linked. We carry out our projects in cooperation and active exchange with faculties and other geoscientific institutes at home and abroad. We also cooperate with colleagues from industry and ministries.
The Bachelor’s program in Geosciences is divided into three sections. In the first two semesters, students learn the basics of geosciences as well as mathematics, physics and chemistry. The aim of the following three semesters is to acquire knowledge and skills in the individual sub-disciplines of the geosciences. In addition to imparting knowledge in lectures and exercises, the program also increasingly includes off-road courses.
