Program Description

Informatics is the heart of the modern information society and a major engine for Germany’s future economic competitiveness. It always makes new products possible, constantly has to deal with new safety aspects and, last but not least, is also important for sustainable and environmentally friendly developments. People are at the forefront of all these developments. Only those who also deal with the needs and the applications with and at the human being can contribute to this development substantially. The networking with other disciplines such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or also cultural sciences, but also the co-operation with politics and economics is natural for a modern computer science.

The Bachelor’s degree course lasts 6 semesters, is divided into two study sections and is almost completely German-language-studied. The first stage of your studies essentially comprises the 1st to 4th semesters and provides you with a broad basis for your further studies in compulsory courses. The second part of the course comprises the 5th and 6th semesters. In this section you will take one module from each of the following areas of computer science:

  • Software Engineering
  • Algorithms and Complexity
  • Computer Systems
  • Data and Knowledge

The aim of this study phase is to provide you with a range of knowledge that will lead to a professional qualification. In addition to compulsory electives from the above-mentioned areas, an (optional) eight-week practical phase and a bachelor thesis round off the course of study. In the second section of the Bachelor’s program you can deepen your knowledge in one of the areas by freely choosing a second module in that area according to your interests.
