Advance in your career
University of the Information Society
A strong foundation in computer science and interdisciplinary combination of many disciplines of information technology provides an excellent basis for your education. The university wants to achieve even more: it wants to advance the scientific-technological development of the information society and wants to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the information and knowledge society.
The University has a focus on the study of sciences and cultural studies. The original institution was founded in 1614. There are five faculties and 67 degree programs. With over 7,500 students the Faculty of Cultural Sciences is the largest.
The population is around 150.000 and it is in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the most important centers of the computer science industry in Germany. The German computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf had a great impact on the city. He has a museum named after him, which is the 7. Biggest computer museum in the world. A historical town center, an old castle, a wide range of cultural activities, plenty of green areas and hiking trails make it a very attractive place to live.

If you are interested in computer science and electrical engineering, you can combine both with this Computer Engineering course. As an interface between computer science and electrical engineering, the course combines knowledge from two courses of study that work together on problem solutions for computer systems. The bachelor’s program lasts 6 semesters and is divided into two sections:
In the first phase of studies (1st to 4th semester), the basics are mainly taught in compulsory courses. These consist of the modules Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Practical exercises and experiments are associated with this.
In the third semester, the practical course Micro-Controller and Interface Electronics is to be completed, which creates the interface between hardware and software. The second part of the course comprises the 5th and 6th semesters and includes compulsory as well as elective modules in the field of electrical engineering and computer science. In the fifth semester, a system design project is carried out in which students work in a team on a larger task in hardware/software design. In addition, there are events on the legal foundations and social aspects of information technology as well as the Soft Skills module. The Soft Skills module consists of a proseminar, a freely selectable event that develops individual skills, and a mentoring program. The second phase of the Bachelor’s program is completed with the Bachelor’s thesis.
