Regional roots, global reputation – that’s the University. The education is very popular with national and international companies. The teaching and research in engineering sciences, natural sciences, computer science and economics is made in 34 institutes and 5 research centers. The university especially offers courses in engineering since is a technical university.
It is the largest town of the surrounding area with an altitude of 535 m. It is great for winter activities, and for walking and mountain biking during the rest of the year. The university was opened in 1775 and used to be a school and a center for mining apprentices. In 1864 it was established as a mining academy, and also taught physics, chemistry, mathematics and engineering. One part of the towns focus is on university life and the business world, whereas the other part is the tourist center of the city.

This system integration as well as the conception and design of the required new technologies are considered in the course of studies Energy System Technology. In addition to further engineering fundamentals, the elective area can be used to expand the system-wide overview or to set one’s own focal points.
The majority of the studies offer the opportunity to set their own focus in the area of storage, machines and grids and regenerative generation plants. Alternatively, a broad study is possible in order to expand the system overview. In the third semester, a project work is also prepared together with fellow students in which practical questions are dealt with. The degree is completed with the master thesis as an independent scientific work, which can be written both at the university in the context of research projects and in industry.
