The University has a focus on the study of sciences and cultural studies. The original institution was founded in 1614. There are five faculties and 67 degree programs. With over 7,500 students the Faculty of Cultural Sciences is the largest.

The City

The population is around 150.000 and it is in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the most important centers of the computer science industry in Germany. The German computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf had a great impact on the city. He has a museum named after him, which is the 7. Biggest computer museum in the world. A historical town center, an old castle, a wide range of cultural activities, plenty of green areas and hiking trails make it a very attractive place to live.

Program Description

The scientific, occupation-related training enables the graduates to become active in the field of information processing in companies both on the application side and on the development side or in an intermediary role. For example, you can work as an information manager, project manager, system analyst, IT organizer, or process organizer. They are increasingly in demand in operational functional areas such as marketing, production or materials management. Another important focus of possible professional activity is management consulting, especially in the area of strategic IT decisions and IT consulting in general.

The Master’s program will enable graduates to continue to carry out challenging research tasks in business informatics. The Master’s degree thus qualifies students for work in the field of research and science, for example for doctoral studies.

In the four-semester Master’s program Management Information Systems (MIS) with the degree Master of Science (M. Sc. ), specialists and executives are trained in the design of socio-technical information systems in digital change. The training takes into account key success factors for excellent career opportunities for graduates in companies, research institutions and social sectors by imparting specialist knowledge and methodological competence, as well as an international orientation and practical orientation. The course thus supplements and deepens the knowledge and skills acquired in a bachelor’s degree in economics. Our graduates are thus particularly well qualified to successfully use the latest information technologies to realize strategic competitive advantages in companies.  The University is one of the leading research and study locations for business informatics in the German-speaking world.

A total of 120 credit points are to be earned in modules in the Management Information Systems degree program, which can be broken down as follows:

30 credit points for economics and business administration

30 credit points Individual Study or Research

20 credit points for Business Information Systems

10 credit points Methods

30 credit points Final module with master thesis
