Building on the Bachelor of Science, the Master of Science in Physics program imparts in-depth specialist knowledge and scientific methods of physics. The study aims are the deepening and specialization of physical knowledge and skills as well as the ability to work independently in science. The Master’s program consists of a specialization phase and a research phase. The in-depth phase serves to expand and consolidate the specialist knowledge of physics and introduces you to the state of the art in current research. The last academic year is conceived as a coherent research phase in which you learn to work independently in a special field of physics and develop new knowledge. This also includes the preparation of a master thesis. Within one year you will work on a physical problem with scientific methods within the framework of your Master’s thesis with the aim of gaining new scientific knowledge. The Master of Science degree qualifies you, for example, to work in research and development. But not only that: A subsequent promotion to Dr. rer. nat. is also possible.
