University of the Information Society
A strong foundation in computer science and interdisciplinary combination of many disciplines of information technology provides an excellent basis for your education. The university wants to achieve even more: it wants to advance the scientific-technological development of the information society and wants to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the information and knowledge society.
The University has a focus on the study of sciences and cultural studies. The original institution was founded in 1614. There are five faculties and 67 degree programs. With over 7,500 students the Faculty of Cultural Sciences is the largest.
The population is around 150.000 and it is in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the most important centers of the computer science industry in Germany. The German computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf had a great impact on the city. He has a museum named after him, which is the 7. Biggest computer museum in the world. A historical town center, an old castle, a wide range of cultural activities, plenty of green areas and hiking trails make it a very attractive place to live.

The production lines of the automobile industry, for example, often come to mind. In fact, automation technology plays an important role in mechanical engineering. But without information technology it has not been possible in mechanical engineering for a long time. The demands placed on machines are also becoming more varied and complex. This results in new challenges and tasks for engineers in the following areas
